C. Todd Navrat is an executive, corporate attorney, and entrepreneur with more than 20 years of experience working with private and publicly traded companies, ranging from start-ups to multi-billion dollar enterprises, in the areas of M&A, IP licensing, entertainment/media law, finance, tax, strategy and technology development/management. He is a builder, problem solver, teacher and life-long learner whose passion is assembling and leading diverse teams to achieve audacious goals.
Mr. Navrat is currently General Counsel and a board member of Taco Tico Enterprises, LLC. He previously served Hallmark Cards, Inc in various roles of progressing responsibility as an attorney and senior executive; most recently as both Chief Operating Officer for Hallmark Labs, LLC, Hallmark’s digital innovation arm based in Santa Monica, CA, and Associate General Counsel for Hallmark Cards.
At Hallmark Labs, he oversaw a 100-person team and led the operational and financial turnaround of the company through the repositioning of its digital greeting card businesses and the re-launch of its highly successful subscription streaming video service from Feeln® to Hallmark Movies Now®. During his tenure, the Labs team won a 2017 Daytime Emmy® for best travel documentary offered by a streaming video service, a 2018 Cablefax award for best tablet app offered by a streaming video service and was a shortlist nominee for a 2017 Oscar® for best documentary short subject.
At Hallmark Cards, he was responsible for a wide range of legal and business matters with a primary focus in corporate and transactional law and led major initiatives that significantly improved the delivery of legal and other business support services.
Throughout his career, he has been a trusted counselor, operator and strategic thought leader. He led turnarounds of enterprises in the digital media and restaurant industries. He helped formulate and lead a number of key strategic business initiatives: i) the development and execution of alliance licensing models with major media and entertainment companies, ii) the creation of an innovative music rights licensing model for greeting cards and iii) the acquisition/launch of businesses in geo-construction, oil field services, publishing, film production, internet video streaming and digital commerce. He has envisioned and led multiple initiatives transforming business operations in the areas of employee benefits administration, legal, licensing and procurement.
Mr. Navrat has also successfully pursued a variety of entrepreneurial activities in Kansas City and his hometown of Wichita, including organizing and leading the franchisee buyout and re-launch of the Taco Tico® restaurant system. He has been an active supporter of Kansas City’s burgeoning start-up community as the co-owner of one of the first incubators in the Kansas City Start-Up Village, and is a Techstars® mentor.
Multiple degrees - University of Kansas School of Business, Juris Doctor - Washburn University School of Law, studied economics at the London School of Economics.
Past lecturer for the Practicing Law Institute in the area of intellectual property management in joint business ventures.
